Kookmin University

On September 1, when Kookmin University was established as a “University of the nation” and “University of the people,” Haegong, in his inaugural speech, declared the university’s foundation spirit based on the independence movement. He explained that Kookmin University was established under the ideal that an education geared toward independence (for nation-building) was necessary. He also emphasized that the university’s fundamental mission (academic research and the pursuit of truth) should contribute to the construction of the nation. This statement not only reflected Haegong’s long-standing ideals in the national education movement but also clearly articulated the founding philosophy of Kookmin University.
